Microsoft’s Halo Channel will unlock bonus content in upcoming Halo games

During Gamescom, it was confirmed that Microsoft’s new Halo Channel, an Xbox One equivalent of the old 360 Halo Waypoint, will unlock bonus content in both Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo 5: Guardians.

The Halo Channel will offer Ridley Scott’s Halo: Nightfall series, amongst others, and watching via the service will provide said unlocks.

“When you get to the end of a show it will show you all the things you’ve unlocked and experienced,” 343’s Kiki Wolfkill said via Polygon. “Another key part of that is rewarding you for the things you’ve done in the channel and ecosystem. So, Halo: Nightfall for instance will have unlocks in The Master Chief Collection and in the Halo 5 beta that will carry into Halo 5 and vice versa.

“What we really want to do is create this really seamless ecosystem that allows you to experience different things together and be rewarded for that.”

Other content confirmed for Halo Channel includes Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and Halo gameplay streams powered by Twitch.

The Halo Channel will be free on Xbox One and Windows 8 devices from 11 November.
