Microsoft urges staff to avoid public April Fools’ Day pranks

Microsoft is the latest corporation to put an end to April Fools’ Day pranks, a leaked internal memo has confirmed.

In the memo, verified by The Verge, Microsoft’s marketing head Chris Capossela explained that “data tells us these stunts have limited positive impact and can actually result in unwanted news cycles.”

Capossela therefore encouraged all Microsoft teams to avoid public-facing April Fools’ Day pranks.

“I appreciate that people may have devoted time and resources to these activities, but I believe we have more to lose than gain by attempting to be funny on this one day,” he continued.

“Sometimes the outcomes are amusing and sometimes they’re not,” he also said, and we agree wholeheartedly.
