Microsoft raises price of Xbox consoles in the USA

Make price hikes great again?

Microsoft will raise the price of its Xbox Series range of consoles in the USA, with the Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition costing more than $800 USD.

“Beginning on October 3, we will update the recommended retailer pricing for Series S and Series X consoles in the United States due to changes in the macroeconomic environment,” Microsoft said in a statement.

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.”

Here’s what each Xbox Series console will cost US consumers from 3 October:

  • Xbox Series S 516GB: $399.99 USD
  • Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99 USD
  • Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99 USD
  • Xbox Series X: $649.99 USD
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: $799.99 USD

Microsoft added that prices will not be increased (again, at least in this instance) in other regions.

“Pricing in countries outside the U.S. remains the same. Local pricing may differ by country to reflect exchange rates and other market conditions,” Microsoft said.

Microsoft already has raised the price of Xbox consoles and peripherals this year. An Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition breaks the thousand dollar mark at $1,049.00 AUD.
