Microsoft officially ends support of Windows Phone

Microsoft has officially ended support of Windows Phone, the company has recently confirmed.

Launched in 2010, Windows Phone 7 made way for Windows Phone 8, though most supported devices couldn’t handle the upgrade from one OS to the other. WP8 was then dropped in favour of Windows 10 Mobile, essentially an extension of the operating system found on tablets and PCs. AdDuplex estimates that 80% of Windows-driven phones are still running Windows Phone 7, 8 or 8.1

The company is still supporting Windows 10 Mobile. Even then, Engadget reports that Microsoft has cut a majority of its former Nokia staff and is in the process of winding down mobile efforts entirely.

On the gaming side of things, Microsoft has released its own titles, including Wordament and Microsoft Solitaire Collection to other mobile OSes, complete with Achievements.
