Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launch issues cause long loading times

Not a great start, sadly...

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is now available, though users are experiencing a host of launch issues across Windows PC and Xbox Series consoles.

“We are aware of user reports of long initial loading times into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024,” Microsoft advised. “With so many users initializing the sim concurrently, we have a large number of server requests. We are working to help resolve the issues as soon as possible.

“For users whose initial load is past 90% and no longer progressing, we recommend a reboot. Otherwise we advise waiting to allow the loading to proceed as normal.”

Microsoft has provided me with a Steam key for review, and I had a bunch of trouble connecting to my Xbox account, stuck in a loop after confirming my credentials over and over. I eventually succeeded and got stuck in a login queue as demand was too high — something that our own Ben Salter experienced this morning over on Xbox.

We’re hoping issues die down quickly — we’re jazzed to start playing, especially after speaking with Flight Sim head Jorg Neumann and learning there’s always “something to do”.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 heads to Windows PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store alongside Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Cloud Gaming today, 20 November. It’s part of Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
