The Last Guardian confirmed for 2016; its characters detailed

Edge Magazine has posted impressions of The Last Guardian after checking it out alongside its Designer, Fumito Ueda.

First, your human character will come equipped with a shield that’s used to shine a beam of light. That beam will act as a marker for the gigantic creature, named Trico, to fire a red lazer from his tail at. Said mechanics are used in a number of environmental puzzles in-game.

Edge states that Trico is a “free-spirited creature that flagrantly disregards your attempts to tame it.” According to Ueda, this is intentional “because there are a lot [of games] out there where [you’re able to tame a companion]. I think I’ve had enough of them.

“The role of the creature is ambiguous,” Ueda continued, “… and it doesn’t always do what you ask it to do.”

The game was also confirmed for a 2016 release.

We’ll hopefully get some time with The Last Guardian at E3. Stay tuned.
