Kojima denies Kojima Productions to be acquired by PlayStation

Kojima says the studio is "independent" and has apologised for any confusion.

Kojima ProductionsHideo Kojima has said his studio will remain “independent” despite a suggestive PlayStation Studios banner that had many believing the studio was about to be acquired by Sony.

The misunderstanding all started back when a ResetEra user noticed that Concrete Genie had been replaced by Death Stranding on a banner found on PlayStation Studios’ website. The banner featured images from Sony first-party titles including Demon’s Souls by Bluepoint, a studio acquired by Sony last year.

Kojima added fuel to the fire by posting the very same banner on his Japanese Twitter account, providing no other context while doing so.

The famed developer then took back to Twitter the next day, using his English account to elaborate.

“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, but Kojima Productions has been and will continue to be an independent studio,” he wrote, retweeting the tweet with the banner.

Despite Kojima’s tweet, we should all likely continue watching what comes next; Bluepoint Games denied it had been denied after (ironically) an image leaked the news ahead of an official announcement.

PlayStation’s latest acquisitions include the likes of Bluepoint, Returnal‘s Housemarque, Firesprite, Nixxes, Destiny’s Bungie and Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios.
