Ken Block’s Gymkhana Nine was to take place in Sydney to promote Forza Horizon 3

Rally driver Ken Block had planned his latest Gymkhana video to take place in Sydney, Australia — timed for the launch of Forza Horizon 3 — before Australian Police forced him to pull the plug.

The news comes from Jalopnik, who reported earlier in the week.

Block’s Hoonigan Racing had planned to film the spectacular stunt video using Sydney’s Central Business District and, specifically, the Sydney Harbor Bridge. Hoonigan confirmed with Jalopnik that Forza Horizon 3 was a central focus of the gig.

“The police down there started to make things difficult with the permitting process for the locations we were trying to secure, both public and private,” said Hoonigan’s Matt Tuccillo.

“Apparently we were going to be ‘bad’ for Australia and as we got closer and closer to filming we started to lose more and more locations that we had secured, ultimately forcing us to abandon the concept.”

Tuccillo added that the video’s original concept was to fill it with “locations that were iconic and instantly recognizable as Australia”, much like Forza Horizon 3 itself.

Instead, Block’s Gymkhana Nine was filmed in Buffalo, New York.

Forza Horizon 3 heads to Windows PC and Xbox One later this month.
