Just Cause 5 in development at Square Enix

Surprise!

Just Cause 5 is in development at Square Enix, the publisher recently confirmed during an investor briefing.

Despite slipping under the radar, the folks over at Resetera thankfully picked up on it.

“Our materials provide an overview and details of the Transaction, but I note that its primary purpose was a reorientation of our portfolio,” Square said in the briefing, addressing the recent sale of most of its western IPs and studios.

“We especially revisited our studio and title portfolios from the perspective of stepping up our offering of online titles that we develop for the North American and the European market. We want to focus on creating new titles that align with our strategy, including ones that leverage new IP. The Just Cause franchise will remain our IP, and we are at work developing a new title in the franchise.”

As we’ve previously detailed, Square sold off Tomb Raider, Thief, Deus Ex and more but kept the rights to Life is Strange, Just Cause and Outriders.

The most recent Just Cause title was 2018’s Just Cause 4. We’ll keep you informed as we learn more.
