Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet’s setting detailed by Neil Druckmann

Get a better idea of what to expect from this hour-long video.

A new hour-long video features Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann as he describes the setting and world-building put into its upcoming title, Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet.

Speaking with Civil War‘s Alex Garland, Druckmann explained that Intergalactic is set 2,000 years in the future, in a world that diverged from ours in the 1980s. In this world, an “original prophet” introduced a new religion to the world, one that’s been “changed… bastardised and evolved” since that time.

“With The Last of Us 2, we made a lot of creative decisions that got us a lot of hate,” Druckmann said. “So the joke is that, hey, let’s do something people won’t care as much about: faith and religion!”

Players will fill the shoes of a bounty hunter who crash-lands on a planet that is still following said bastardised religion.

“This whole religion takes place on this one planet and at one point all communication stops from this planet,” Druckmann said. “I really want you to be lost in a place, really confused by the place, who are the people, what is their history.”

Announced back in December 2024, we also know that Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet will feature a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. We’ll report back as more is known of the title.
