Here’s the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer

The very first Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer is out now — as rumoured yesterday with a Dr. Robotnik photo — and it’s every bit as bad as you’ve likely imagined.

The lengthy trailer, below, really sets the stage for what’s to come. Sonic’s arrival in the USA’s midwest seems to capture the attention of the government. They send Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) to investigate-slash-take over the world or something. James Marsden also appears as a child abductor.

Oh, and it also uses the tagline “Every hero has a genesis,” which is perfect for me as a Canadian but likely problematic for Aussies who may still have a Mega Drive at home. Ah well, just watch the trailer.

The internet’s had a field day making fun of the trailer. We’ve included some responses to it — including those from our own staffers — below.

What do you think of the trailer? Sound off in the comments below.

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds to theatres later this year.
