Here’s a 37-minute video of Mark Cerny detailing the PS5 Pro GPU

Grab the popcorn and geek out with PlayStation's lead architect.

PlayStation has today released a 37-minute video in which lead architect Mark Cerny discusses the PS5 Pro GPU in exhaustive detail.

“In the presentation, you’ll learn what the ‘advanced’ in ‘Advanced Ray Tracing’ really means, the difference between FLOPS and TOPS, and some of the challenges involved in developing the efficient machine learning hardware needed for PSSR – the AI-driven upscaling featured in PS5 Pro,” Cerny said alongside the video.

While techheads are going to love the video, below, Sony and Cerny were very quick to assert that it “doesn’t feature new game announcements or new gameplay footage”.

Honestly, most of what Cerny was saying went straight over my head, but good on you if you can keep up and find it all interesting.

Cerny also highlighted a new partnership with AMD.

“I’m honored to announce that we have begun a deeper collaboration with a focus on Machine Learning-based technology for graphics and gameplay,” Cerny said. “Both AMD and SIE share many of the same goals related to advancing the medium of video games.”

The PS5 Pro is out now and costs $1,999.95 AUD here in Australia.
