Halo Wars 2: A lack of cross-play is because of “longer standing engine reasons”

Xbox head Phil Spencer has taken to Twitter to confirm that “longer standing engine reasons” are stopping Halo Wars 2 from offering cross-play multiplayer across Windows PC and Xbox One.

Spencer added he hopes this will be corrected going forward.

Sadly, Halo Wars 2 also lacks HDR support on Xbox One S.

Despite these setbacks, Halo Wars 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning one digital purchase unlocks the game across both PC and Xbox One. Game Saves and Achievements will transition between the two platforms.

Gears of War 4 has recently started to offer cross-play multiplayer in Social Quickplay.

Halo Wars 2 heads to Windows PC and Xbox One on 21 February 2017. We’ve previewed the title here.
