Halo 5’s 20 multiplayer maps don’t require Xbox Live Gold to play, 15 more coming for free later

Halo 5: Guardians will feature 20 multiplayer maps at launch, with another 15 being added through free updates all the way until June 2016.

The news was reported by Game Informer as part of a Halo 5 exclusive yesterday.

None of Halo 5‘s maps will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play upon, though you will need a Gold account to play the game’s co-op campaign. Sadly, split-screen co-op is a thing of the past, and friends will need their own Xbox, copy of Halo 5 and internet connection in order to team up.

The game will come with a 14-day trial of Xbox Live Gold, so those who’re cheap and want to do co-op need to do it in a pretty quick period of time.

We’ll have more on Halo 5 at E3 next week.
