God of War gets one-year anniversary content, but not DLC

God of War will offer extra content in celebration of its one-year anniversary, but that content will not include DLC, Sony Santa Monica’s Cory Barlog has confirmed.

The internet went into a tizzy when Barlog’s first announcement of the content was rather ambiguous.

“That’s not all…,” he wrote in response to news that God of War would offer up one-year anniversary content including PS4 themes and avatars, leading many to believe DLC was on the way.

“Just so no one gets the wrong idea – there is no DLC coming for the game,” he later clarified. “Sorry.”

To Sony Santa Monica’s credit, the studio has been pretty forthcoming about a lack of DLC. Barlog once said that any plans for DLC ended up being far too large in scope. “It would end up being its own thing,” Barlog said of DLC plans. “Rightfully so, everybody had said to me, ‘Dude, this is crazy. This isn’t DLC, it’s a little too big.'”

While there’s been talk of a standalone title coming in the vein of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, nothing’s been confirmed as yet.

God of War was first released on 20 April 2018; it’s a PS4 exclusive title.
