Gears of War 4 now sports cross-play Social Quickplay multiplayer across PC, Xbox

Gears of War 4 now supports cross-play Social Quickplay multiplayer between Windows PC and Xbox One players.

Planned to be “a permanent move” inside Social Quickplay, Microsoft and The Coalition will be testing the feature in its first few months. No changes will be made to Gears‘ Core and Competitive multiplayer modes, where keyboard and mouse players may find themselves at an advantage over those with controllers.

“Due to the major popularity of Social Quickplay on Windows 10, we will be looking at introducing new Core and Competitive solutions for Windows 10 players in the future,” a statement from Microsoft read.

A cross-play weekend was first trialled back in December 2016.

Gears of War 4 is available now on Windows PC and Xbox One. We reviewed it here.
