Gears’ The Coalition tech demo shows what Unreal Engine 5 can do

It's stunning!

Gears developer The Coalition has created a new tech demo to show off just what the new Unreal Engine 5 can do.

The results, frankly, are stunning.

Called the Alpha Point demo, The Coalition says its work provides “an insight into what’s possible with [Unreal Engine 5], from its next-gen features such as Nanite, which allows for unlimited triangle budget, and Lumen, which allows real-time lighting with none of the traditional overheard tasks.” You can check the demo — which has ray-tracing and real-time reflections and lighting, below.

A subsequent video focuses on character design, with a hyper-realistic beareded gentleman just awash with details. It’s below.

Finally Unreal Engine’s Epic released a behind-the-scenes video to accompany The Coalition’s work.

The Coalition has confirmed that it will be working on “multiple new projects” using Unreal Engine 5. Fellow Xbox Game Studios developer InXile has also confirmed it’s using Unreal Engine 5 for its next big project.

If you missed a previous Unreal Engine 5 PS5 demo, you can check that out here.
