Forza Horizon 6 confirmed; will be a timed Xbox console exclusive

A PS5 release will come "post-launch".

The often-leaked Forza Horizon 6 was formally announced by Microsoft yesterday, and the rumours were true: it’s taking place in Japan. Additionally, the title will release as a timed Xbox console exclusive before making its way to PS5.

“For a long time, Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players in Forza Horizon 6,” said art director Don Arceta over on Xbox’s blog. “Japan has such a unique culture – from cars, to music, to fashion – that make it perfect for the next Horizon setting. As with any Horizon title, we want to make sure we do the country justice in terms of authentic representation and Horizon open world playability – and now is the right time to realize that fully for players.”

Playground Games has promised to showcase Japan’s “true breadth of beauty,” including the likes of Tokyo, Mount Fuji, and more.

Microsoft also used the announcement to confirm that Forza Horizon 6 will be a timed Xbox console exclusive.

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026,” the publisher said. “With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are also working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 post-launch. For now, players can wishlist on Xbox and Steam, and we can’t wait to share more details on Forza Horizon 6 early next year.”
