FIFA 22 gameplay reveal shows off current-gen HyperMotion

FIFA 22 gameplay and HyperMotion was the focus of EA Play Live’s last showcase ahead of the full livestream event scheduled for this Friday. We have the full presentation — and a breakdown — for you below.

The showcase ran for 30 minutes and touched upon the current-gen console advancements that are driving animations, AI and more.

First, FIFA 22 AI is able to make up to 6 times the amounts of decisions, per second, as compared to last year. This makes opponents (and teammates) more aware and able to create smarter plays, and on the defensive side, players are able to act as a unit and retain positioning. AI player reaction is also faster as a result.

Next, EA further discussed HyperMotion, the machine learning system that will produce far more lifelike animations. FIFA 22 is the result of the analysis of 8.7 million frames of match capture data which played out in 11v11 matches with 22 real-life professional football players.

FIFA 22 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Stadia from 1 October. FIFA 22 Legacy Edition will also be offered on Switch.

EA Play Live takes place from 3.00 am AEST on 23 July. You can watch the event right here.
