EXCLUSIVE: Get a first look at The Beat, a Melbourne-made gay murder mystery

Stevivor’s got an exclusive first look at The Beat: A Glam Noir Game, a gay-themed investigative thriller developed by the Melbourne-based Up Multimedia.

The Beat is described by Up as “a gay 3D turn-based narrative adventure” where you play as a closeted gay cop who is investigating a murder that’s taken place inside the gay scene. Taking place over seven days and nights, Up says The Beat “is inspired by historical events”.

In the first look, below, you can check out stylised real-world locations, vehicles that share more than a passing resemblance to Victoria Police cars, and motion-captured performances. Up Multimedia has also provided Stevivor with a series of in-game screenshots and behind-the-scenes images featuring Miller and performance artist, James Welsby, that chronicle the work in progress. They’re also below.

“We’re excited for everyone to finally see what we’ve been working on for the last 18 months,” said Luke Miller, Producer at Up Multimedia. “It’s a big change from our previous game (Escape from Pleasure Planet) but the heart is the same – games with a gay world view.

“Using some cutting edge tech we’re trying to make something a bit rougher, a bit rawer and a bit more glam.”

Produced with the assistance of Film Victoria, The Beat features character models by 3D artist Mark Payne and a full original soundtrack by DOS4GW.

This exclusive first look is so early it’s even beaten the ability to Wishlist the game on Steam. Never fear, though — you’re able to do that here from Friday, 3 August.

The Beat: A Glam Noir Game is expected on Windows PC, Mac and Linux later this year. Stay tuned for more from Stevivor in the days to come.
