The first Fortnite Esports scholarships are being offered

The first batch of Fortnite Esports scholarships are being offered by Ohio’s Ashland University.

Scholarships of up to $4,000 USD will be offered starting autumn 2018, Ashland University Esports coach, Josh Buchanan, confirmed with Variety. The program will also include titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Overwatch and Rocket League.

“I think Fortnite has a lot of room for players to get creative. There’s a lot of teamwork in [the game’s core building mechanic] that’s really untapped,” Buchanan said. “A lot of players kind of do fancy stuff, and it looks cool, but it might not be the most efficient. I think it’s a game that, due to how creative you can be, there’s a lot of potential to get really, really skilled in the game.”

Variety reports that Missouri Baptist University is also considering a Fortnite: Battle Royale team.
