EA lays off 350 staff, CEO Andrew Wilson calls it “a difficult day”

EA has laid off 350 staff across its marketing, publishing and operations teams today, CEO Andrew Wilson has today confirmed.

“This is a difficult day,” Wilson wrote in a blog post. “The changes we’re making today will impact about 350 roles in our 9,000-person company. These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly. We are friends and colleagues at EA, we appreciate and value everyone’s contributions, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we are looking after our people to help them through this period to find their next opportunity. This is our top priority.”

Promising that “great games will continue to be at the core of everything we do,” Wilson also confirmed that EA will be “ramping down our current presence in Japan and Russia as we focus on different ways to serve our players in those markets.”

These lay offs come after Activision confirmed it had made 800 redundancies and ArenaNet also confirmed it would be downsizing.

A report from As You Sow back in February listed both Activision and EA among a list of the top 100 companies with overpaid Chief Executive Officers.

Our best wishes go out to those former EA employees impacted by today’s news.
