EA is laying off 6% of its workforce

"EA is operating from a position of strength," it says at the same time.

EA will lay off 6% of its workforce, it has recently declared.

“Even amidst macro uncertainty, EA is operating from a position of strength,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said in a statement confirming the layoffs. “Our business is gaining momentum as we continue to deliver high quality games and amazing content across some of the largest, most beloved franchises in the world.”

Despite this, Wilson continued to say that, “As we drive greater focus across our portfolio, we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams. These decisions are expected to impact approximately six percent of our company’s workforce.”

As PC Gamer points out, an EA filing to the SEC stated it has 12,900 employees as of 31 March 2022; that number means around 770 people will be impacted by these layoffs. A report from Kotaku last month suggested 200 Apex Legends testers had been laid off.

EA’s announcement of layoffs comes after similar moves by companies including Take-Two, Google, Microsoft and Amazon.
