EA Desktop app to replace EA Origin

An EA Desktop app will replace the existing EA Origin one on PC, a new report from GamesBeat states.

“The EA Desktop app is being designed to deliver a frictionless and socially connected experience that is faster for players to get into their games,” EA senior vice president Michael Blank told the outlet. “We have revealed some of this, but we haven’t revealed all of it.”

The new app will retain an Origin user’s library, games saves and the like. EA will slowly roll out the new desktop app on a first-come, first-served invitation basis before general availability.

This move by EA is just another in a move to kill off the Origin brand; the service was recently rebranded as EA Play and will also be incorporated into Xbox Game Pass subscriptions before the end of the year.

We’ll have more on the EA Desktop app as it becomes available.
