Starbucks cup accidentally makes appearance in Game of Thrones

Update: The rogue coffee cup has been removed from digital versions of the show as streamed via HBO. No word on if Foxtel has the amended version or not.

Original story: A modern-day Starbucks coffee cup accidentally found its way into the latest episode of Game of Thrones yesterday, and the internet’s having a field day with it.

The cup makes an appearance directly in front of Daenerys in one shot, and fans were quick to point it out. So too was Starbucks itself:

HBO also offered an official statement on the rogue cup.

“The latte that appeared in the episode was a mistake,” HBO’s statement reads. “Daenerys had ordered an herbal tea.”

Let’s just chalk this one up to an honest mistake. That said, who knows — maybe an in-world Starbucks will be written into the show ahead of its finale in just three episodes’ time. Here in Australia, Game of Thrones is exclusive to Foxtel; you might be interested in fancy whiskeys to celebrate its conclusion.
