Diablo III is 1080p on Xbox One because Microsoft demanded it

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition is 1080p on Xbox One primarily because Microsoft told Blizzard that its original 900p resolution was unacceptable.

Microsoft then worked with Blizzard directly to ensure the title would hit 1080p.

“We did find it challenging early on to get it to 1080p,” Blizzard’s John Hight confessed in an interview with Digital Foundary.

“That’s why we made the decision to drop to 900. That’s what we demoed and were showing around E3 time. And Microsoft was just like, ‘This is unacceptable. You need to figure out a way to get a better resolution.’ So we worked with them directly, they gave us a code update to let us get to full 1080p.”

Are you glad Xbox One games are reaching resolution parity with PS4 titles? What do you think about Microsoft’s active stance on raising the resolution of third-party titles?
