Are lightsabers enough to bring you back in?
Destiny 2 Renegades, the looter shooter’s Star Wars-inspired expansion, is available now on all platforms.
“As the next chapter in Destiny 2’s Fate Saga, Renegades merges Destiny 2’s distinct combat and storytelling with themes and elements drawn from the iconic sci-fi franchise,” Bungie said in a press release.
“Guardians begin their journey as part of a crew of underdogs rising to challenge the Barant Imperium, a powerful Cabal faction, who Drifter suspects are connected to the Nine,” Bungie continued. “Defying the Vanguard, players will join Drifter and forge alliances with new and returning characters while building influence and power in the criminal underworld, centered on the new social hub, Tharsis Outpost, on Mars.”
To be honest, I’m so far removed from Destiny 2 I have no idea what’s going on (nor why The Drifter has aged quite a bit). Maybe that’s the point, though: with player numbers dwindling, is this Star Wars crossover enough to bring Guardians back?
Time will tell.
“Renegades introduces the Lawless Frontier, a new activity designed for replayability and scalable challenge,” Bungie continued. “Guardians will take on a range of high-risk, high-reward jobs, including Smuggling, Bounty Hunts, and Sabotage, across six new maps on Venus, Europa, and Mars, all inspired by iconic Star Wars locations.”
Also included, of course, are lightsabers.
“Renegades also adds new weapons and gear, including the Praxic Blade, a kinetic Exotic Sword inspired by lightsabers, offering multiple customization paths that meaningfully impact gameplay,” Bungie continued. “The expansion debuts a new weapon archetype, Blasters, featuring a heat-based firing and reload system that replaces traditional magazines.”
A host of other new Exotics include the Solar Crossbow Heirloom, the Strand Machine Gun Service of Luzaku, alongside new Exotic armor for each class: the Deimosuffusion Warlock Helmet, Fortune’s Favor Hunter Legs, and the Praxic Vestment Titan Chest.
Renegades will set you back $39.99 USD or $59.95 AUD. Grab it on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or the Epic Games Store.
Destiny 2 is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5.
