Destiny 2 Iron Banner has a special Overwatch Easter egg

Destiny 2‘s Iron Banner has an Overwatch Easter egg that’s pretty special… if you can manage a 20-Guardian killstreak, that is.

The Easter egg, a reference to Overwatch‘s Reaper and his Death Blossom super, is delivered through a special, extended voice line from announcer Lord Saladin. It takes place in the Iron Banner playlist, recently enable in-game.

“Die! Die! Di — *coughing* Sorry, I’ve been watching too many Iron Banner manners,” Saladin exclaims. “What time is it? Shaxx? Shaxx, are you there? Can you get me water? Stop yelling, it’s just a question. I’m not old!”

This is amazing for so many reasons. First, the “Die! Die! Die!” bit is what Reaper yells when he activates his super. Next, because Reaper has the gravelliest voice around, Saladin makes fun of it. Third, it’s Saladin giving commentary in the Crucible, which is always the best. Finally, both Saladin and Reaper share the same voice actor, Keith Ferguson. Neato, eh?

You can experience Bungie’s nod to fellow (well, upcoming) Battle.net game in the video below.

Thanks to YouTuber Wayne Ng — and excellent Iron Banner skills, by the way. That’s a ‘We Ran Out of Medals’ Medal well-earned.

Destiny 2 is currently available on Xbox One and PS4. It heads to Windows PC later in the month.
