Cortana requires Kinect on Xbox One (duh.)

A recent trailer for the new Xbox One experience confirmed that Kinect will be required to use personal assistant Cortana.

Cortana, named after the AI in Halo, is a Windows 10 feature that functions much like Apple’s Ciri. Cortana will be available on all Windows 10 devices, including Windows Phone, Windows PC and the Xbox One.

As Cortana is activated by voice command, Kinect and its microphone are required with the console.

Cortana may not work immediately in Australia anyway, if the Windows 10 Preview Program has shown us anything. We’ll keep you posted.

Windows 10 is expected on PCs and tablets from 29 July and by the holidays on Xbox One. We’ve previewed the new Xbox One experience at E3.
