You can change Pokemon Go teams once per year

A new item will allow players to change Pokemon Go teams once per year, perfect if you’re regretting the initial choice you may have made way back in 2016.

From 7.00 am AEDT on 27 February, players will be able to purchase a Team Medallion for 1,000 Pokemon Go Coins. The item is described as a “unique coin that enables a Trainer to change teams. A Team Medallion can only be purchased from the shop once per 365 days.”

You can use the item at any time after you’ve purchased it — provided you haven’t used one in the past year, that is. When activated, your Pokemon will remain in any Gyms you’ve placed them in, but you won’t earn coins for those Gyms when they’re defeated. You won’t be able to battle your own Pokemon in those Gyms now that you’re on another team.

If you’re unfamiliar with the teams, they’re below, alongside colours and leaders:

  • Team Instinct: Yellow, led by Spark
  • Team Valor: Red, led by Candela
  • Team Mystic: Blue, led by Blanche

I picked Instinct cause I thought Spark was hot; you might want to check in with your friends to see which team is most popular among your peers.

Pokemon Go is available now on iOS and Android devices.
