And players are not convinced.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 won’t let you play as the likes of Beavis and Butt-Head, also known as “carry over” skins from Black Ops 6, citing a desire for gameplay to feel “authentic”. Fans, however, are convinced this is just a ploy to resell cartoonish skins down the line.
“Black Ops 7 needs to feel authentic to Call of Duty and its setting. That is why Black Ops 6 Operator and Weapon content will not carry forward to Black Ops 7,” Activision Blizzard said in an update.
It should be noted that the publisher added that, “double XP tokens and GobbleGums will still carry forward, because we recognize your time and progression are important.”
Player response to the announcement has been largely negative.
“This is hilarious, Activision is laughing all the way to the bank,” wrote Garrus_Vak on Reddit. “First they announced that skins would carry over – this means less skin sales in BO7 as some people will just use what they have already. THEN the community said[,] “that sucks these skins are terrible like [B]eavis and [B]utthead.”

“For the first 2 months or so these will be the most [outlandish skins] we get,” wrote reddeats, who posted a photo of steampunk-esque skins that will feature in Black Ops 7. “Until 2 months after launch we get Wednesday Addams, Sydney Sweeney, Rick Sanchez and Spongebob Squarepants.”
“OP fell for it,” wrote A1sauc3d. “They’re not gonna stop selling wild ass skins, that’s where all the money they make is lol.”
“True,” added Long8D. “They want to get rid of your old skins to make sure people spend again on new skins lol.”
Truthfully, seeing Beavis and/or Butt-Head slaughter someone in Black Ops 6 is weird, but that’s the tip of the iceberg which includes the likes of the Ninja Turtles Fans have suggested a realism filter that lets you keep to authentic soldiers rather than skins, but said suggestion hasn’t been taken up as yet.
Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is planned for a release on Windows PC via Steam and Battle.net, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5.
