Bought an Xbox controller that didn’t come with batteries? You can get a free play and charge kit.

Kaboom!

Microsoft will provide a free play and charge kit to consumers who purchased an Xbox controller that didn’t come with batteries, the company has today advised.

A limited number of controllers have shipped without batteries since December,” Microsoft said on Twitter. “If you received one of these controllers, go here for a rechargeable battery on us. All controllers moving forward will include batteries.”

Xbox controllers normally come with two AA batteries (usually Duracell) but those who went without will now be able to take advantage of a far more eco-friendly solution. The play and charge kit — now known as the “Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C Cable” — naturally comes with just that: a single rechargeable battery pack and a USB-C charging cable.

Those impacted can head to the website Microsoft detailed and register their device to take advantage of the scheme. And those impacted should!
