Borderlands 4 OP knife gets a few more days of use ahead of nerf

Use it while you can!

The Borderlands 4 infinite bleed knife will remain untouched for a few more days, meaning players can jump in and experience its OPness first-hand.

For those unaware, combining the Vampiric Vivisecting Throwing Knife with its Penetrator Augment — which increases the likelihood of critical hits — with Vex’s Contamination Skill — which causes bleed with critical hits —  basically creates an infinite loop of criticals, bleeds, and shreds health. Admittedly, it’s overpowered as all hell, but sounds really, really fun.

In early September, Gearbox acknowledged the state of the OP infinite bleed knife, and gave warning that it would eventually patch it out.

“We’ve seen the discourse about builds that use unintended interactions and/or the knife,” said Gearbox’s Graeme Timmins at the time. “We’re not going to act on those immediately, instead, we’re looking at our first round of buffs. Those will get addressed but we’re going to start with underperforming gear/skills first.”

Last week, that time had seemingly come, with Timmins giving “seven days notice” before the knife would be nerfed. Today, though, Gearbox has advised that they’ll be taking “a few extra days” before said patch is released. It’s now expected sometime early next week.

“Quick update that our Day 30 Update, which includes balance adjustments, performance and stability improvements, and some new quality-of-life features, will be hitting early next week!” Gearbox said. “We took a few extra days to help ensure a great experience for you.”

So really, if you haven’t tried out the build and want to, the clock is really, really ticking.

Borderlands 4 is currently available on Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
