Borderlands 3 won’t have loot boxes but will sell cosmetics for cash

Borderlands 3 won’t have loot boxes but will sell cosmetic items for cash, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has declared.

Pitchford took to a livestream to declare that Borderlands 3 “won’t have microtransactions.”

He then clarified that means the upcoming shooter will not put up any weapons, gear or other gameplay-impacting items up for sale for real-world money. Cosmetic items, however, are still on the table according to Gearbox.

“We’re selling cosmetic items, but we’re not going to nickel and dime players,” Gearbox’s Paul Sage told GameInformer. “DLC will come down the line, but the game won’t have anything excessive.”

What do you make of the situation?

Borderlands 3 is available from 13 September on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. Our very own Luke Lawrie previewed it here.
