Avowed delayed to February 2025

The game's in "good shape" but avoiding a "very busy period" for Game Pass.

Update: The rumours were true, with Microsoft today confirming Avowed will be delayed into February of next year.

“So many games coming! As such, we’re moving Avowed to Feb 18, 2025 to give players’ backlogs some breathing room,” Microsoft said in a statement.

Original story: Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed will reportedly be delayed from this year into 2025, Tom Warren of The Verge today alleges.

In a (paywalled) newsletter, Warren has said that, “I’m hearing that Obsidian is about to announce an Avowed delay to early 2025.” He adds that his sources say Avowed is in “good shape” and the delay into 2025 is “more a matter of wanting to give the game breathing room during very busy period for Xbox Game Pass”.

While the Microsoft-backed Stalker 2 has recently been delayed to November 2024, Avowed would also potentially be competing with big-name RPGs in both Dragon Age The Veilguard and Assassin’s Creed Shadows in late 2024.

Microsoft hasn’t said anything about a delay to Avowed, but we’re bound to hear more about the title at Gamescom later this month. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
