Australian games industry remains strong amidst COVID

Good news all around!

The Australian video games industry has remained strong in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new survey from the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (IGEA) has found.

The survey revealed that 62% of respondents reported stable or increased revenue in the past tweve months, compared to 33% in the year before.

Only 4% of companies who replied to the survey had plans to reduce their workforce, while 63% were planning to increase their numbers.

Moreover, the pandemic has caused 60% of respondents to adopt a hybrid working solution, balancing working from home with that in an office.

The IGEA’s full report can be accessed here.

In early 2021, the IGEA’s 2020 Australian Game Development Survey reported that the local industry grew revenues by 29% in 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
