Fern 'Antireal' Hook says, "the issue has been resolved".
Fern ‘Antireal’ Hook, the artist who had work “lifted” by Bungie for its upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, has now confirmed she has “resolved” the issue with the studio and its owner, Sony.
Taking to Twitter, Hook said, “the Marathon art issue has been resolved with Bungie and Sony Interactive Entertainment to my satisfaction.”
Hook took to social media back in May of this year claiming Bungie had plagiarised her work.
“The Marathon alpha released recently and its environments are covered with assets lifted from poster designs I made in 2017,” Hook wrote.
“Bungie is of course not obligated to hire me when making a game that draws overwhelmingly from the same design language I have refined for the last decade, but clearly my work was good enough to pillage for ideas and plaster all over their game without pay or attribution.”
Bungie confirmed Hook’s claims in less than 24 hours, adding they the studio would reach out to the artist to resolve the issue.
“We immediately investigated a concern regarding unauthorized use of artist decals in Marathon and confirmed that a former Bungie artist included these in a texture sheet that was ultimately used in-game,” Bungie wrote on Twitter.
During Hook’s initial report and this resolution, Marathon was delayed indefinitely.
Marathon is planned for a release on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
