Amazon US won’t ship to Australia from July 2018

Retail giant Amazon will stop shipping to Australia from the United States, it has today confirmed.

From 1 July, anything purchased on Amazon.com (or any other variation that’s not .com.au) will no longer ship to Australian addresses.

“While we regret any inconvenience this may cause customers, we have had to assess the workability of the legislation as a global business with multiple international sites,” an statement from Amazon reads.

The changes coincide with new stipulations that will begin collecting GST on all goods shipped into Australia from the same date. Right now, GST is only collection on shipments worth $1,000 AUD or more.

Amazon launched in Australia in late November last year. The retail giant says it plans to introduce the speedy Amazon Prime service within 2018.
