Despite paying to stream, you're about to see more ads during your movies and TV.
Amazon will reportedly increase the amount of ads seen inside lower-tiers of Prime Video subscriptions, according to the Financial Times.
Speaking with the outlet, Prime Video International VP Kelly Day said that Prime Video launched with “a very light load” of ads in what she called a “gentle entry into advertising”.
“We know it was a bit of a contrarian approach to take,” said Day. “But it’s actually gone much better than we even anticipated.”
Day added that more ads would be inserted because, frankly, Amazon can get away with it. Day said that Prime Video hasn’t seen “a groundswell of people churning out or canceling” in reaction to ad insertion.
Here in Australia, ads were inserted inside lower-tier Prime Video offerings back in July. Australians have the option to pay an extra $2.99 AUD per month to avoid ads during streaming.
