Amazon Alexa now works directly through Xbox

Can't find a controller? No problem!

Amazon’s Alexa now works directly though Xbox, meaning you can give the virtual assistant commands without the need to deploy an Xbox Skill.

You’ll need an Amazon Echo or compatible device to use the functionality, and of course have to connect the pair beforehand, using a new Alexa app for Xbox to do so.

Once that’s done, here are just some of the commands that you can deploy.

  • “Alexa, turn on/off Xbox” Turn your console on or off –
  • “Alexa, launch [game name] on Xbox”: Launch a game
  • “Alexa, open [app name] on Xbox”: Launch an app
  • “Alexa, what’s new on Game Pass”
  • “Alexa, tell Xbox to pause/resume”: Pause or resume media content
  • “Alexa, tell Xbox to record that”: Tell Xbox to record recent gameplay
  • “Alexa, ask Xbox is [friend/gamertag] online?”: Find friends

Alexa was previously available through Xbox Skill, meaning you could get Alexa to help you out using commands that started with, “Tell Xbox to…”.

Do you plan on using Alexa with your Xbox One, Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X?
