4:Loop coming from Bad Robot Games, Sony, and Left 4 Dead’s creator

Update: The name of Bad Robot Games’ newest title is 4:Loop, today confirmed at The Game Awards 2025.

4:LOOP is a four-player co-op shooter set in an original sci-fi universe,” reads the description on the game’s announcement trailer. “Experiment. Improvise. See if you can beat the odds.”

Original story: Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced it will publish the next game from JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot Games, described as a “four-player, cooperative shooter” and headed to both PC and PS5.

Moreover, the untitled game will be directed by Left 4 Dead creator Mike Booth, which makes sense considering the known premise of Bad Robot Games’ premiere internally-developed title. Booth also serves as the chief creative officer of the studio.

“We’re greatly impressed with the talent Bad Robot Games has assembled at their studio, and are thrilled to partner with them to help produce and publish their upcoming game,” said Sony vice president Christian Svensson.

“Their unique creative voice and passion for innovating across all forms of interactive entertainment perfectly aligns with SIE’s mission to craft experiences that resonate deeply with players,” Svensson continued. “We can’t wait for gamers to step into the world they’ve been building.”

Bad Robot Games is a division of TV and film’s Bad Robot, which is responsible for productions including Lost, Cloverfield, Mission: Impossible, and, of course, 2010’s Star Trek Kelvin timeline films. The studio also had a hand in the mobile Silent Hill Ascension.

“Formed by JJ Abrams and a team passionate about innovation in gaming, Bad Robot Games is a dedicated game studio working on new and existing transmedia franchises,” the studio said of itself. “The company is fully remote, and made up of a diverse community of creatives focused on creating worlds you can experience across all screens.”

Bad Robot Games was formed in 2018 as part of a partnership with Tencent and WB Games.
