The 3DS XL will soon be discontinued in Japan

With the New 3DS XL available for purchase, a Siliconera translation of a Nintendo of Japan announcement asserts that the original 3DS XL will be “ending production soon”.

The announcement says the the standard 3DS will remain in production alongside the New 3DS and the New 3DS XL in the country.

Japan and Australia are the only two countries where the New 3DS XL can be purchased. There’s no word yet on whether or not Australian availability of the original 3DS XL will change.
