Halo’s O’Connor: Those who leak game news aren’t prophets

Frank O’Connor, 343’s Franchise Development Director and longstanding Halo guru, has used NeoGAF to lash out at industry insiders who leak news ahead of planned release strategies.

In a NeoGAF thread where users praised those who leak as “prophets”, O’Connor countered that “breaking embargoes is not prophesy.

“Nor does it require any particular skill or insight,” he continued. “Ultimately (the “prophet) is taking or being given information and leaking it, illegally and often erroneously.

“And he isn’t doing it for some noble or worthy reason. He’s doing it for attention.”

His anger began to show as he continued on, questioning the good that comes from a leak. He pointed out that some leaked information is utterly false or inaccurate, and causes gamers to “get hyped or disappointed disproportionately”.

“It isn’t prophecy, nor ultimately even important. It’s annoying,” he concluded.

Do you agree or disagree with O’Connor’s thoughts?
