Linking your Microsoft Account on PS5 or Steam? Here's what to expect.
Another day, another Microsoft Xbox console exclusive breaking free and ending up on PlayStation. This time it’s Gears of War Reloaded, which heads to PS5 and Steam alongside Xbox and the Microsoft Store today.
This post details the benefits (and hindrances) that you’ll encounter when linking your Microsoft Account on a non-Xbox platform, as well as how to link on PS5 (which is the platform we’ve been playing).
How to link your Microsoft Account to Gears of War Reloaded on PS5
Here’s how to link your account inside Gears of War Reloaded:
- Once in the game, you’ll get a prompt to link immediately. If you said no, you can also head to Login with Microsoft Account or Settings > Account > Sign in for free in the main menu
- You’ll get a unique code that you’ll need to link via https://www.microsoft.com/link
- Input the code on the website, go through your Microsoft two-factor authentication if needed, and voila!
What happens when you link your Microsoft Account to Gears of War Reloaded on PS5 and Steam
Once linked, the following occurs:
- You will be able to use cross-saves across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam.
- You will be able to take advantage of cross-platform Trophy and Achievement unlocks in either direction. That is, you can unlock an Achievement on Xbox and it’ll auto-pop a Trophy on PlayStation or Steam the next time you play the game there, and vice versa.
- You will not be able to play Gears of War Reloaded at the same time using the linked account on both Xbox and PlayStation (ie: Stevivor on Xbox cannot be playing at the same time as Stevivor on PlayStation or Steam after linkage).
Cross-saves and cross-platform play are only allowed once you link, so keep that in mind as well.
Gears of War Reloaded is available now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5; it’s also part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
