Here’s CoD Black Ops 7’s “Story So Far” (but Treyarch says you don’t need to know it)

It'll help, obviously, though Treyarch's looking for the right "balance" for players new and old.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 continues the story of Black Ops 2, and Treyarch’s here with a new “Story So Far” trailer to help players new and old. The thing is, though, you don’t necessarily need to watch it in order to catch (back?) up.

Speaking with Treyarch associate creative director Miles Leslie in Sydney last week, Stevivor was told that the studio is looking for a “fine balance” that will cater to those who’ve played Black Ops 2 and those that may be new to the franchise altogether. That balance goes beyond a story recap and extends into the campaign proper.

“It’s always a fine balance, even in the game, to make sure you’re not overdoing the Easter eggs and the nods and that can happen,” Leslie said. “We’ll be in a meeting and we’ll be like so deep that it’s like, ‘what character are we talking about?’ So you have to pull back on those things to not overdo it.”

While you can certainly few the recap, above, Leslie says he and his team are “also trying to figure out a way that it can maybe play in-game.”

Regardless, when it comes to the trailer and to a requirement of knowledge to play through Black Ops 7‘s campaign, Leslie said, “I think we have the right balance.”

We’ll find out very soon — Call of Duty Black Ops 7 heads to Windows PC via Steam and Battle.net, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5 this Friday on 14 November.
