Far Cry 5’s Guns and Fangs for Hire are truly special, says Ubisoft

Speaking with Stevivor, Far Cry 5‘s Dan Hay detailed the game’s special Guns and Fangs for Hire characters.

Thanks to the game’s marketing, we’ve already met three of those special NPCs — Grace, Nick and good boy Boomer. According to Hay, the word “special” really is key — Ubisoft’s designed the characters so you truly feel rewarded engaging with them.

“From the standpoint of planes and the ability to fly, we wanted to make sure that the plane you get from Nick is really special,” Hay said of one of the Guns. “Once you find Nick and once you get that, there will always be an opportunity for you to fly-on-call when you want.”

Each of the characters for hire will have a loyalty mission to win them over to your cause. As you’d imagine, Nick comes with his plane — and because you as the player have the opportunity to fly your own planes, Nick’s aircraft had to feel very unique.

“The plane that you get from him is pretty much the premiere one,” Hay said. “But there will be other things out there we’ll let you take to the skies and what not.”

Nick’s plane drops bombs, so it’s pretty damn special.

“The same thing with Boomer,” Hay continued. “We wanted to make sure Boomer was special.”

With the system called Fangs for Hire, it stands to reason Boomer won’t be the only four-legged companion you’ll meet in Hope County. Sadly, Hay wouldn’t comment on this directly, nor would he confirm (or deny) that you can have multiple Guns or Fangs for Hire working with you at the same time.

Far Cry 5 will be available from 27 February 2018 on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. We went hands-on with the game — and good boy Boomer — right here.
