Far Cry 5’s Boomer the dog named after a “nuts and crazy and fun” real life equivalent

Boomer the dog, arguably Far Cry 5‘s best companion, wasn’t named after the fair dinkum Aussie kangaroo. Instead, he takes his moniker from a “nuts and crazy and fun” real life canine that belongs to a friend of Executive Producer Dan Hay.

“Really, it’s Australian?” Hay asked Stevivor’s Shane Wall after he confessed he chose the companion in a hands-on demo due to the connection.

“It’s actually the name of my best friend’s dog,” Hay continued. “That’s what it is. My best friend’s got this cool dog and I was like, ‘that would be a good name.’

“[Boomer] is nuts and crazy and fun. He’s so great.”

That last statement looks to be true both inside and outside of the game… though it’s likely Boomer will only fetch you automatic weapons within the virtual realm of Hope County.

Far Cry 5 heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 on 27 February 2018.
