Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: How your choice at the end of Human Revolution impacts the world

Speaking with Mary DeMarle, Executive Narrative Director for the Deus Ex franchise, at PAX Australia, we had the chance to see if the choice you made at the end of Human Revolution actually matters in the upcoming Mankind Divided.

Adam Jensen’s previous outing in 2011 ended with a pivotal player choice – at this stage it’s not really a spoiler anymore to say that your endgame decision would affect whether you would guide the world to embrace, regulate or reject augmentation in society. With Mankind Divided carrying on the same narrative, it only makes sense that one of those three outcomes was the one made canon. Right?

“The answer that we always give is that the choice the player made at the end, IS the choice that was made,” DeMarle said.

Given the chaotic nature of Human Revolution’s endgame — the “Aug Incident” as DeMarle described it — she explained that the player’s message did get out but was quickly buried with disinformation thanks to the series’ multiple shadowy organisations. With only Jensen and a select few others truly knowing the truth of events, the rest of the world is left to make up their own minds.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be available from 23 February 2016 on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. Stay tuned for more with Mary from PAX AUS.
