Sony sells through 5.7 million PS4s over the holidays

Though Microsoft has promised to keep quiet on Xbox One sales numbers, Sony is more than happy to report on how well the PS4 is doing. According to the company, 5.7 million PS4s were sold through during the holiday season.

That means the PS4 has sold through 35.9 million units globally as of 3 January 2016.

For those unaware, the term “sold through” means that 5.7 million PS4s were actually purchased by end users over the holiday season. Perhaps that’s why the PlayStation Network went down yesterday?

“We are absolutely delighted that so many customers have selected PS4 as the best place to play throughout this holiday season and that the PS4 community is growing more than ever,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
