Empty PS4 box sells for $450 AUD on eBay

Buyer, beware.

A recent listing on eBay shows that an empty PS4 box — yep, that’s right: an empty cardboard box that used to hold a PS4 — has been sold for $450 AUD.

The seller, leight23, does clearly say that the auction is for a “used ps4 box only”, but you can’t help but feel like the listing was designed to catch those quick-to-bid.

“Ps4 [sic] box. Great buy. Great if you don’t have a box yet,” the listing continues.

Worse yet, eBay’s “more chances to get what you want section” lists two other empty PS4 boxes in amongst actual consoles. One of those boxes is already at $99 AUD.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) has laws about false of misleading claims “in place to protect [us] from being misled about the products and services [we] buy”, but again, leight23 was pretty upfront about the box being the only object up for purchase.

What do you think of eBay listings of this type? Deceptive, or did the buyer deserve what he or she bought.

Thanks, Aaron.
